Our Achievements

“Remember, there’s no such thing as a small act of kindness. Every act creates a ripple with no logical end

When we leave a defibrillator at a school, club or project – we truly hope that there is no need for them to use it.

However, the facts speak for themselves.  12 young people die every week from sudden cardiac arrest – of these 270 are children who will die at school.  Even more tragically – 80% of these young people will have no symptoms.

We know the impact of devastating loss and work to ensure that along with our peaceful message, we spread defibrillators far and wide across Sussex, to make it as ‘heart safe’ as we possibly can.

PRESENTATION OF 110TH DEFIBRILLATOR:  May 2022

It felt really good to be back in school today, we made the lovely Downs Junior School heartsafe. What a pleasure it was. We were with year 5 and these young students were so attentive and asked lots of questions.

The teacher said “The assembly was fantastic – I told Daz that our year group can be challenging, so the fact that they listened so attentively (you could have heard a pin drop) shows how effectively she was able to engage them. The workshops were brilliant too and we will try to follow these up by reminding children what they learned.”

PRESENTATION OF 111TH DEFIBRILLATOR:  May 2022

We presented the Russel Martin Foundation with a Defibrillator today and our first aid sessions for their secondary school-age pupils.  We are delighted that they and the surrounding area have become heart safe.

We celebrate this 100 defibrillator donation in memory of Connor’s remarkable gift for life and know that despite our own personal tragedy, he’d be delighted at just how many people are ‘heart safe’ because of him and how he lives on in our hearts, our memories and actions today.

PRESENTATION OF 101st DEFIBRILLATOR : NOVEMBER 2019

Wow! What else can we say about Bramford Primary School in Dudley (taking Connor’s message far and wide!)

It was our pleasure to get your school “heart safe” and tell Connor’s story, after receiving your nomination. The students here were engaging and thoughtful: they asked so many questions about Connor and participated brilliantly in the importance of making the right choice.

We were thrilled and proud to see them all sign up to ‘Connor’s Kindness Challenge’ – being brave, brilliant and kind at all times –  truly heartfelt.

Their head Mrs Lisa Guest an incredible woman with so much passion and care for her school and pupils have left us in awe of her beliefs for change. They have decided to make The Connor Saunders Foundation their charity for the next FIVE years.

We look forward to working with you in the future.  And once again, wow.  You guys are incredible!

Wow, what an emotional, inspiring, encouraging day we spent with
West Blatchington Primary.

Not only were they celebrating a new hi tec building for their students, but they also embraced Connor’s story with open hearts, you could have heard a pin drop. They were so engaging and asked lots of questions. We spoke about the consequences, the choices you make, to promote kindness, not hurting with our hands. How you can truly make a difference through kindness, as Connor did.

We taught 151 students including their very special ASC unit, our first aid workshop. Our message of Connor brought tears and smiles as we spoke about his gentle soul.   We think that everyone who teaches, supports and is involved at this school  should be very proud of your establishment and students.

Thank you Rockinghorse Children’s Charity for your continued belief and Love in our Peaceful Revolution for Connor. Xxxxx 5 is alive

PRESENTATION OF 97TH DEFIBRILLATOR : MAY 2019

The Crew Club Whitehawk is now heart safe. This great club is a safe haven for the community. They sat and listened as I spoke about Connor, how four minutes of madness changed lives forever. Think before you throw that punch. We spoke about justice, what is justice? The only justice we wanted as a family was Connor back. We spoke about the power girls have to defuse certain situations, it takes courage to say Stop! Think! Don’t do it! The girls have that power. Our first aid workshop they learnt about knife wounds, what would you do? How can you help? Recovery position, keeping your friends safe when they have drunk too much. How to call emergency services through your on/off button on their phone, if they have no credit.

We believe here at HQ these young people can and will be the difference. We are in awe of the work @crewclub do, their passion and drive to make a difference is inspiring.

In the 20 years of service Lorraine and Daz have grieved 18 young deaths, and they continue with love and hope that change can and will come through education and awareness. These young people were all asked to sign Connor’s Challenge to be kinder to one another and they did.

Can your community benefit from an evening like this? Please get in touch daz@connors5.com

Windlesham School is now heart safe.

It was a very emotional morning, many staff members knew Connor or knew of him. There is no shame in showing your tears, it allows us humans to express our feelings, tears are the words the heart can’t speak.

Connor’s story is powerful and hard to tell but it needs to be told. I know those adults will go home tonight and hold their children a little tighter – my Connor loved a cuddle.

We believe our anti violence message will stop – no more one punch. The first aid lessons were informative with Sarah’s message of fun being injected into the workshops, after a emotive assembly, is much needed.
God gave us our hands for helping not hurting.

We have had such an amazing and emotional morning with St Wilfred C of E primary school. It is never our intention to upset pupils or staff but sometimes it’s inevitable; Connor’s story is sad and showing your emotions means you have empathy.

“Live Life Then Give Life” aims are to  save and improve the lives of all those in need or receipt of organ and tissue transplants. The charity exists to improve education and awareness of organ donation and to fund projects that increase the numbers of successful transplants in the UK.

COACHING IN SCHOOLS : JANUARY 2013.

We provided weekly Football Coaching in Cedar House School.

This quote from a teacher sums up the impact:

“The training has been an excellent opportunity for our young people to firstly, get some exercise, but equally is to learn that teamwork and fun that are fundamental aspects of  participating in the training and the games played each week. The children we work with are vulnerable, many challenged with complex needs, however all are treated as important valuable and respected members of the team.

I have been so impressed with the work by the Connor Saunders’ Foundation, I have recommended them to the Pupil Refereal Units in Brighton and Hove, as well as independent organisations working with vulnerable adults across Brighton and Hove.”

COACHING IN SCHOOLS : DEC 2012

Over the past year, the Connor Saunders Foundations various funding opportunities have allowed UEFA B Coach Tony Coade to offer coaching for disabled children and children on the ASD spectrum  in schools across the South East.

Tony also  holds a FA  qualification in Disability football. A usual session last approximately an hour and ensures that it is adaptable for all levels of participation, reaching children with autism and other disabilities.

Sports and exercise can improve social and cognitive skills, develop motor skills and are also fun!

The Connor Saunders Foundation worked hand in hand with local communities offering coaching sessions free of charge for children and schools.

PRESENTATION OF 1st& 2ND DEFIBRILLATOR : JULY 2012

Connors Defib 1 2

We proudly gave out our first two Defibs to Peacehaven FC and Whitehawk FC.

Connor played at Peacehaven under his Dad as manager and had wanted to get a Defibrillator for them, which is what started Connor’s Foundation off.

He loved and adored Peacehaven. We decided as a family that as people asked about donations that we would use that to buy Peacehaven a Defib like Connor wanted, that is where it snowballed and Connor’s Foundation began.

We were able to get more than one so the second went to Connor’s youth team Whitehawk FC. He played many happy and succesful years with Whitehawk so we were delighted they both got the first two.

We were glad and proud to hand them a defib.
